Our development workflow
how it works
This is an exciting time, a time to rethink how you do business and how you can better optimise your workflows. Our typical development works like this:

Initial meet & greet to understand you and your business
As part of the meeting, we divide your app into various phases or modules. We then look at the first phase and what is the minimum needed to get you a return on your investment as early as possible. This is known as the Minimum Viable Product (MVP).
We provide you with an initial scope of works
We work with you to refine the concept and then make it into a scope of works so you will know exactly what will be deliverd and at what cost.
The initial scope will focus on the MVP but also contain the general direction for future phases and modules.

We start developing your first version
Once you're happy with the scope of works we then start developing your software. During this time we stay in regular contact with you to make any refinements as parts of the software are delivered.
Getting feedback from you and your team during this time ensures the best possible product is delivered.
Your first version is made live and you run it alongside your existing processes
Once we've finished developing the first version of your product and you've provided us with any refinements, we then make your initial system live. Typically, you will then get your staff or certain customers to start using the systems and provide you with feedback.
Often, there can be small enhancements made during this phase

You use the software full-time
You are now the proud owner of your very own, custom-made software that is helping your business run better!
Depending upon your application and its current phase, you may look at getting us to start the next phase or module for your software. Typically this will create a new scope of works which you can then approve before the work begins; we then follow the same process when delivering this new part.
Support, backups & maintenance
Most of our app support plans come with backup, maintenance and support so you can rest easy knowing your app is being professionally looked after. Should you or your staff have any questions or technical issues, we are just a phone call or email away and ready to support you when you need it.

frequently asked questions
Software development and IT optimisation services are often new for many businesses. To make things easier, we've compiled a list of commonly asked questions.

- I'm a small business, can I afford your services?
Yes! Many of our customers are your typical small New Zealand business of 5 to 20 staff. Although custom software is not cheap, having a system work exactly the way you want, massive efficiency gains, better customer and staff experience and enabling you to make better decisions means that it will start paying for itself as soon as it is installed.
- How soon should I see a return on my investment?
Once you go live you will start seeing an immediate gain in how your business operates and the insights the system will give you.
For most customers, the cost of their software is recooped by the gains the software gives them within six months to one year.
- How long does it normally take?
That depends upon the scale and complexity of your project. Most projects we deal with have job management, scheduling, costings and invoicing (usually integrating with Xero or MYOB); a typical project like that tends takes four to six months.
As part of your scope of works, we will provide you with a timeframe and list of deliverables (parts of the project may come at different times depending upon your needs and preference).
- What technologies do you use?
The vast majority of our applications are web-based using Microsoft Blazor technology (this can also be used on desktops, laptops, tablets and mobile phones) as it provides an excellent cloud-based platform. We also write desktop applications, background services, web-services\API's, 365 Power Automate Apps, Office Addons and more.
Programming languages we use tend to be C#, VB.NET, SQL (including Transact-SQL), HTML, CSS and Razor.
For our database engine we use Microsoft SQL Server, usually the free Express version as our databases are highly optimised.
Hosting is typically through Microsoft Azure but we can host locally in your office or with other providers such as Amazon Web Services.
- Who owns the software at the end of it?
Once your software is fully paid, it is 100% yours to own. We keep a copy of your object code to help provide maintenance and bug fixing but this is also provided to you at any time.
Many of our clients have found that their solution becomes a large asset for thier business and can be a great selling point should you come to that stage of the business lifecycle.
- Is there on-going maintenance and hosting costs?
Most sytems run trouble-free for months and months, some we have had running for well over a decade without any major maintenance being carried out.
If you're wanted a cloud-hosted web-based app (most people do) then there is more on-going maintenance and updates to ensure things are kept compatible and secure. This is normally done monthly and we provide you with a maintenance place as part of the scope of works early on in your journey with us.
- What if I find a bug?
It is normal for there to be bugs shortly after a project has been delivered and updated. We pride ourselves in our turn-around times for bugs and most are resolved within an hour or two.
Bugs during development, before the product is fully live, are not charged for and depending upon your maintenance agreement with us, future bugs may or may not be charged at an hourly rate.
- Do you offer retainers?
Yes, we can offer retainer services for those that have a high demand for programming services.
